In Detail
A delightful 500 year old stone house, sleeps 9 in modern comfort, 10 minutes drive from Pezenas (antiques stores, market) and within easy reach of the Mediterranean.

The most architecturally interesting parts of this large stone house date back to the 15th century, late Medieval, early Renaissance. The vaulted ceilings in the living room and a massive fireplace with carved Latin inscription recall an earlier life as the kitchen for an inn or monastery. In World War Two, the same room served as a town bomb shelter (never needed). The house is one block deep. At the rear, the avenue de St-Thibéry provides room for parking. Through the front door, you step immediately onto the tiny rue du Portail ('street of the portal'), which curves through the oldest part of Valros. Our house is part of a row of buildings that follow the old town ramparts.

The house accommodates 9 people on three floors in large comfortable rooms. On the ground floor there is a dining room, with exposed stone walls and beams, a remodelled kitchen, with fridge/freezer, cooker, and washing machine; and a very large living room with vaulted stone ceilings, and an immense working fireplace - the room is furnished with lots of comfortable seating and is well lighted for reading. Outside there is an open two level area for alfresco dining and relaxing.

On the first floor there are four bedrooms: 2 double bedrooms, 1 single bedroom, and a bedroom with 2 single beds with en-suite bathroom with shower and WC. There is also a seperate bathroom with shower and WC.

On the top floor there is a bedroom with queen sized bed, as well as a large and very private terrace.

Amenities

A large library of English-language fiction and non-fiction books, including lots of regional travel books and maps. A cassette tape and compact disc player, and an eclectic musical library featuring dozens of tapes and CDs ranging from Mozart to Edith Piaf to blues great Buddy Guy. A TV and multi-format videocassette player, with an extensive library of films-on-video including recent box office hits and titles hand-picked from the American Film Institute's Top 100 list . A kitchen already stocked with necessities like salt and pepper (in many rentals the cupboard¹s bare when you arrive) and well equipped with pots, pans, dishes and utensils. A telephone for free local calls. Bicycles are available as are board games.
